AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library will offer a valentine to the people of Auburn/Lewiston at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14.
Carmen Lasagna will bring her Celtic harp to the APL Kids’ Room to tell a bit of its long history (the Celtic harp was first known in Ireland in the 700s).
She will demonstrate how a harp works, how it is played and various ways of altering its sound. She will play several selections, some that participants may sing along with.
All interested children and families are invited to participate in the informal gathering.
Lasagna is a sixth-grader at the Webster Intermediate School and has taken harp lessons since she was 8. Her interest in the harp began when she was 6 and saw a harpist perform in the Palm Court at the Plaza Hotel in New York City.
