FARMINGTON – The Farmington-Wilton Chamber of Commerce is preparing to host nearly a month of winter activities.
However, the first event, a snowmobile radar run that was scheduled for Saturday at Wilson Pond in Wilton, has been canceled, said chamber member Scott Landry. The permit needed to hold the race was not sought in time, he said.
February’s activities are on, though.
The fest will kick off from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, with a spaghetti supper at Titcomb Mountain in Farmington followed at 7 p.m. by full moon cross country skiing.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, and Sunday, Feb. 8, dog sled races are scheduled at Sandy River Farms on routes 2 and 27 in Farmington.
Landry said that due to conditions in the fields, the races would be moved across the road to another field from where they were held last year.
A Valentine’s Dance is scheduled from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Farmington Elks Club featuring The Legends.
And from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, the third annual ice fishing derby is planned at Wilson Pond in Wilton. There are dog sled rides at the pond and the Woodland Wanderers Snowmobile Club is scheduled to hold an open house that day.
Free cookies and hot chocolate are to be offered at the Boiler Room in Wilton, ice skating and cross-country skiing at Kineowatha Park and an all-day Klondike Derby at the pond.
There are special events scheduled at noon and 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Titcomb Mountain and a ski polo race the following day from 10 a.m. to noon.
On Friday, Feb. 20, more events are scheduled at the mountain including a 1 p.m. radar race, 6 p.m. bonfire and a 7 p.m. torchlight parade.
Saturday, Feb. 21, features an all-day basketball tournament at Academy Hill School in Wilton, a children’s festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at University of Maine at Farmington, and buggy rides around Farmington from 10 a.m. to about 1 p.m. starting in front of the university’s North Dining Hall.
Also, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. there’s a mountain prize hunt at Titcomb, turkey bowling from noon to 3 p.m. at Hippach Field in Farmington, and from 8 p.m. to midnight a Winter Fest dance at the Farmington Elks Club.
The festival winds down Sunday, Feb. 22, with an array of events, including a 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. ice fishing derby on Clearwater Pond in Industry, a polar bear swim at noon and an all-day basketball tournament at the Academy Hill School in Wilton.
