WEST PARIS – A driver escaped serious injury Friday when his vehicle slid around a curve and slammed into a school bus on Stearns Hill Road.
Oxford County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Holland said the bus driver and the five children who were on board were not injured.
He said the SAD 17 bus was heading east at 7:44 a.m. and turning around a sharp, 90-degree turn when it was struck.
The driver of the car,Angel Rivas, 29, of West Paris, was treated at Stephens Memorial Hospital and released.
“Rivas was heading west when he came into the turn,” Holland said. “He saw the school bus, panicked, slammed on the brakes and slid right into the bus.”
Rivas’ 1992 Jeep was totaled, Holland said.
Holland said the bus, a 1977 International, had about $1,000 in damage.
