PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the VFW Hall on East Main Street in South Paris. If there is no school due to a storm, the group will meet the next day.

The speaker for February will be Frank Perham, a geologist, who will tell of his experiences mining at Plumbago in Newry in the early 70s, the Dunton mine and its remarkable tourmaline, and other semi-precious minerals in Oxford County. Anyone over 50 years of age is welcome.

HOPE dinner

PARIS – On Thursday, Feb. 12, the HOPE group (Healing of Persons Exceptional) will be celebrating 17 years of helping people with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. at the former Ripley home on High Street, South Paris.

Bridge results

NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge met Friday in Norway. Winners were: First, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; second, Jim Dickens and Eleanor Griffin; third, Pete Cummings and Woody Mercier; fourth, Carol Curran and Rowena Palmer.

Duplicate bridge meets every Friday at the Fare Share Food Coop Commons.

All bridge players are welcome. Come before the starting time of 9 a.m. to get settled or help shuffle a few hands. Refreshments are served. The Fare Share Coop is at 443 Main St. A municipal parking lot and entrance are behind the building.

Health board

BERLIN, N.H. – The Board of Directors of Coos County Family Health Services is asking the public to submit nominations for the Sylvia Evans Citizenship award, which is given annually to a woman who has made an outstanding contribution to the well-being of women and families in the North Country. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 27.

Anyone interested in making a nomination should send a written description of the nominee’s contributions with an emphasis on volunteer activities along with the nominees name, address and telephone number to the health services, attention Sylvia Evans Award Committee, 54 Willow St., Berlin, N.H. 03570.
