NORWAY – Peter N. Connell, chairman of the Republican Committee, is inviting registered Republicans to caucus at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, in the Community Room at the Norway Town Office. The main purpose of the biennial caucus is to allow registered voters who are enrolled in the Republican Party to elect delegates and alternates to the Republican State Convention. The convention this year will be held at the Augusta Civic Center on May 14 and 15. Other business will include the organization of the local committee and the nomination of members to the Oxford County Republican Committee. All local Republicans are encouraged to attend the caucus and take part in the political process in the very important election year.

WEST PARIS – A benefit supper for Connie and Vance Bacon will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at the Universalist Church Vestry. The menu will offer baked beans, casseroles, salads, rolls and pies. Adults $6, children 12 and under, $1.50.
Auction at Telstar
BETHEL – An auction will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Telstar High School’s auditorium to benefit the Middle School’s eighth grade class trip to the People to People Conference in Washington, D.C. A preview of items will be offered from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Items include jewelry, 50 gallons of heating oil, an overnight stay at Mollyockett Motel, swim and ski, and snow tubing passes, a 14-inch television with remote, and more than 60 other items. Special Olympics
NORWAY – Special Olympic teams of the Oxford Hills will be participating in a competition at Sugarloaf in Kingfield beginning with trials at 8 a.m. Sunday and Monday, and continuing all day. Finals will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Categories will include downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobile rides for the athletes during off-competition. Dinner for the athletes will be served.

Bicentennial ride
BETHEL – Trail riders interested in participating in and Oxford County bicentennial ride will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Bethel Historical Society Building, Main Street. Horseback riders are sought to help in the delivery of the original county charter from Boston to Paris Hill, visiting many Oxford County schools along the way. The ride begins in Boston on March 4, 2005 and arrives at Paris Hill on June 12. For information phone Larry Glatz at 583-4549.
Chorale rehearsing
PARIS – The Hills Alive Chorale choral group will begin rehearsals for its spring production of “Shout With Joy” at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the First Congregational Church on East Main Street. Beginning season 12, the chorale is a nonauditioned four-part chorus welcoming singers of widely varied experiences and abilities. Local performance date has not been set, but the chorale has been commissioned to perform in Windham on Friday, April 20. Music selected includes choral versions of Billy Joel’s hit “Daydream Believer” first performed by The Monkeys in 1967. There will also be traditional spirituals, contemporary music, and more.
