On Wednesday, Jan. 21, the junior high students of St Peter and Sacred Heart School had an awesome surprise; “The Enforcer” Sheldon Wenzel, the star defenseman Bobby Gate, the newcomer Karl Fournier and Chris Manson, coordinator of promotions for the Lewiston Maineiacs all came to St. Peter and Sacred Heart School.
The teachers provided three varieties of pizza, seven varieties of chips, and six varieties of soda. After lunch we all gathered together and had a group discussion. They talked about their life in Canadian hockey and life in general.
Then we asked them questions. Some questions were:
“Bobby, what is it like being the only American player on the team. He responded, “It’s cool, but in the beginning I used to get teased.”
We asked Sheldon, “What is it like being the fighter on the team?” He smiled and said “It keeps me busy.”
“Karl, what is it like being the new player?” He responded with, “Well it’s all a part of hockey so I’m used to it.”
Some other questions were:
“What kind of music do you like, Wensel?” He replied-with “All kinds of different varieties.”
Then we asked Bobby “What type of TV show do you like to watch? He responded by saying, “The Real World” and “Newlyweds.”
We asked all of them what they like to do in their spare time. They all said that they don’t have much spare time. On nights when they have games the next day, their curfew is at 10 p.m. They also have strength classes and the gym with a lot a practices mixed in.
After our discussion and questions, they autographed pictures, sweatshirts, posters and more. Then we all took a group picture and it was time for them to leave. We would like to thank the Maineiacs for visiting us, we had a really great time.
