RUMFORD – Three resignations were announced at the SAD 43 board meeting Monday night by Superintendent James Hodgkins.

Robert Winchell, alternative education teacher at Mountain Valley High School, cited personal reasons involving travel time.

Tim McInnis, mathematics teacher/athletic director at Mountain Valley High School, cited personal reasons.

Gearry Judkins, district computer technician, took another job.

The district is advertisingWinchell’s and Judkins’ positions. The McInnis position is being studied.

Maureen Desjardins was appointed nutrition services helper at Mountain Valley High School.

Adelaide Soloman was appointed education technician at Meroby Elementary School in Mexico, and Jennifer Bolduc was appointed education technician at Mountain Valley.

The board unanimously approved Anne Breau for third grade this year to replace Greg Waite who transferred to Title 1.

Mountain Valley Principal Bruce Lindberg presented a request from Cheryl Gallant to take her French students and other interested students on a three-day trip to Montreal in March.

No school money would be involved.

Students would take Friday off for a long weekend.

Board member Bertha Barrett wanted to know if students would be responsible for making up the Friday work and what the board’s responsibility would be. Hodgkins said it would be treated like any other field trip, and Lindberg said the students would get their assignments before the trip.

Students would be speaking French in Montreal and experience French culture.

Renee Thompson presented a PowerPoint printout to the board on her trip to Paris and London on June 17.

Barrett said she would only approve the trip if the students were transported to the Boston airport together instead of individual cars.

Tim Gallant, director of transportation and maintenance, said he had money to charter a bus if the board voted to do so.

After both trips were approved, board Chairman Arthur Boivin presented cameras to both groups requesting a quality presentation to the board on their return.

Jeanne La Point presented her case for a new food steamer for the kitchen at the Middle School.

The present one is 37 years old and doesn’t work. She said it would cost $12,000 to fix and $22,000 for a new one.

A new steamer will be purchased.

Lindberg reported that the first semester was extended one week due to the December snow storm.

Tim Gallant said a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant will pay 75 percent of the cost of snow removal after the December snow storm.

He is still waiting for news on a FEMA grant to repair the roof and gym floor from the storm.

Hodgkins said they would be able to finish the basketball season with the gym as it is making sure the floor is safe for the students.
