BOOTHBAY HARBOR – Wilfred B. “Bill” Harris, 64, of Boothbay Harbor, award-winning staff artist at the Boothbay Register and Wiscasset Newspaper for the past 32 years, died at home Thursday, Jan. 29, of lung cancer.
Born April 30, 1939, the son of Beatrice Bennett Harris and Wilfred Harris, he grew up in Lewiston, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1959. He later attended the Museum School in Boston.
During his newspaper career, he won scores of awards for ad design and for special supplements and was well known for his diverse, artistic talents, including stage settings, window displays, papier mache and many other art forms.
He was an avid sports fan and strong supporter of the high school football and basketball teams, as well as student theater and musical productions.
Survivors include his mother of Lewiston; a brother, George Harris and wife, Karen of Lewiston; a sister, Margaret Harris Theobald and husband, Rod of Sheboygan, Wisc.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father.
