OTISFIELD – If no one runs for the town clerk, treasurer, tax collector position, the Board of Selectmen will appoint someone.
Selectmen assistant Marianne Izzo-Morin gave the board this information during their meeting Wednesday night. The budget committee asked what would happen if no one ran for the position, during a recent budget committee meeting. Selectmen reasoned they would hold the position and then appoint someone.
They asked Izzo-Morin to do some research. She reported the board could not hold the position because it would be a conflict of interest and said an appointment was needed.
Izzo-Morin also informed the board it could put an article on the annual town meeting, slated for March 6, to change the town clerk, treasurer, tax collector position to appointed rather than elected. If approved by voters, the change would take place during the annual town meeting in 2005, she said.
“We have a committee looking into that,” Selectman Lenny Adler said, referring to the recently appointed town government study committee. “There’s no need for us to do this.”
Board members agreed.
In other business, the board appointed Lorette Ayotte to the scholarship committee.
