Three Maine artists will speak in Brunswick about their work during Arts Night at the Library.

BRUNSWICK – Three artists will present their work and discuss their artistic process at Arts Night at the Library from 7 to p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St.

The program is presented by the Brunswick Area Arts & Cultural Alliance in collaboration with the Center for Maine Contemporary Art.

The evening will feature Christine Macchi, Lucy Barber and Amy Stacey Curtis. An “open mike” will follow. People can contact Brunswick Area Arts by e-mail at mail@baaca.org or by calling 798-6964 to find out how to get on the mike.

Macchi is a fiber artist who is executive director of Maine Fiberarts, based in Topsham. She focuses on hand spinning, knitting, weaving and sewing. She teaches and demonstrates spinning and knitting. An events planner for several regional fiber shows in the past, Macchi is currently planning “The Year of Fiber 2004.”

Barber is a painter, who studied at the Pratt Institute, receiving a B.F.A., and earned her M.F.A. from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. Most recently, Barber studied at the International School of Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture in Montecastello di Vibio, Italy. She has exhibited extensively, most recently in “Maine Seen” at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art. Barber’s studio is at Fort Andross in Brunswick.

Curtis is an installation artist. Born in Massachusetts, she moved to Maine in 1986. Now a resident of Gray, her original interest was mathematics. Curtis graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Maine with bachelor degrees in studio art and advertising and from Vermont College of Norwich University with an M.A. in art and psychology. Although Curtis’ focus is installation, her paintings are in private collections internationally.
