MEXICO – His Gathering Place will host the monthly union service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Mexico Recreation Center.

Pastor Larry Shaw will be sharing his experience from his 11 trips to China to deliver bibles. He will discuss freedom of religion in China. The public is invited.

Ski event

CONWAY, N. H. – More than 175 skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities are expected to participate in the American Cancer Society’s 27th annual Race to Beat Cancer Sunday, Feb. 8, at Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway. Registration will continue from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. on Feb. 8 at the North Base Lodge. Last year nearly $17,000 was raised. Red Hats’ tea

RUMFORD – The Red Hat Mommas of Western Maine will attend a valentine tea at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Mexico Congregational Church. Tea and refreshments will be served by the ladies fellowship and entertainment will be provided. The cost is $5 a person.

Members met recently at the Island Cafe to celebrate the first anniversary of the club. New members are Clara Allen, Laurie Dempsey, Bertha Kelley, Lucy Gilbert, Nancy Palmer, Pat Pino, Karen Gallant and Janice Heath. Linda French won the dinner certificate for the Balsams. Red Hat pins were won by Lucy Gilbert, Alice Clark and Laurie Dempsey.

There is a trip scheduled for June 14 to 16 to Ottawa, Can. Anyone interested can pick up forms from Rita. There is also a trip to New York City from May 15 to 17. Order blanks for shirts were distributed. The next meeting is at 5 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Mexico Chicken Coop.

Photo exhibit

MEXICO – Photographs by Sally Taylor of Bethel will be on display at University College, 13 Brown St., through the end of March. The college center is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The building is handicap accessible.
