1917 – 2004

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Louise Curtis, 87, formerly of Bowdoin, died Friday, Feb. 6.

She was born in Winslow Jan. 11, 1917, the daughter of Burton and Minnie Estelle Douglas Higgins. She was educated in Waterville schools, graduating from Waterville High School with the class of 1935. She later attended Thomas College having graduated with the class of 1938.

After college she went to work with the Federal Trust Co. until her marriage in 1943 to Leonard Ford Curtis who died in 1995. From 1967 until 1978, she worked for the Maine National Bank in Brunswick. It was there she retired in 1978.

She was an active member of the West Bowdoin Baptist Church where she was a part of the West Bowdoin Missionary Society. She also was a member of the church choirs throughout her life and had such a love for music. She loved to play the piano and became a very accomplished pianist.

Among her interests were gardening, tending to her flowers, knitting and crocheting. Her greatest pleasure in life however, was spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed yet always remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and now great-grandmother.

She is survived by three sons, Brian Leonard and his wife Colette of St. Petersburg, Fla., William Pratt and his wife Nancy of Kane, Pa., and Burton Paul and his wife Sallie of Bowdoin; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
