LEWISTON – The Central Maine Human Resource Association became the Central Maine Human Resource Association Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management on Dec. 31, 2003.

Gary Thornton, SPHR, SHRM’s Maine State Council director and the Northeast Region Membership Advisory Council representative, will speak at the chartering ceremony to be held during the Feb. 10 meeting that starts at 11:30 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn.

Members also will hear a presentation on domestic violence in the workplace by Doreen Merrill of the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project.

SHRM provides education and information services, conferences and seminars, government and media representation, online services and publications to more than 185,000 professional and student members throughout the world.

The local association has been serving the needs of the human resource community in the Androscoggin County area since the mid-1970s. It provides professional development opportunities for members through monthly meetings and special workshops focused on HR issues. Chapter officers are Jackie Little, of the Lewiston School Department, president; Nancy Lavoie of Geiger, vice president; Michelle Lefebvre of Central Maine Community College, secretary; and Celine Jannarone, treasurer.
