RANGELEY – The hunt for a new town manager in Rangeley is on, and interested parties have less than three weeks to get their applications in.

The former town manager, William E. Lundrigan, ended his six-and-half-year tenure on Dec. 31, though he is receiving full salary and benefits through June 30 after the town bought out the remainder of his contract.

For now, the five selectmen of Rangeley are filling in as the manager post remains vacant.

Selectman Jim Stone is taking care of the mail and selectmen are popping into the office more often.

“We think it’s going well,” said Mark Beauregard, chairman of the board of selectmen. “For as much as there is going on in town right now, I think we are doing a good job.”

Beauregard said selectmen are placing their confidence in their skilled staffers at the town office. “We let them do their jobs and just try to support them,” he said.

The Maine Municipal Association is helping Rangeley search for a new manager. Advertisements have appeared in newspapers across the state, and also on the MMA’s Web site.

There are 20 full-time employees for the town, which has an annual budget of around $2 million, not including schools, the advertisement states.

The application deadline is Feb. 26, and Beauregard and the MMA expects there will be a broad selection of candidates.
