FARMINGTON – The 2004 Farmington Republican caucus will be held at 7 p.m Thursday, Feb. 12, according to Fred O. Smith II, town committee chairman. The event will be held in Conference Room C-23 at the Roberts Learning Center of the University of Maine at Farmington campus and is open to all enrolled Republicans. The Farmington registrar of voters will be at the event from 6:30 to 7 p.m. to register and enroll any new voters. The caucus will elect 11 delegates and 11 alternates to the 2004 Maine Republican State Convention set for May 14-15 in Augusta. It will also elect two members to the Franklin County Republican Committee and will organize and elect members to the Farmington Republican Town Committee. LIVERMORE – Charity Rebekah Lodge of Livermore Falls will meet Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Ralph Wright Memorial Building, 284 Federal Road. Refreshments will be served at 12:30 p.m. prior to the meeting by Bernal and Glennys Wilkins, hosts for the day. Following the 1:30 p.m. meeting, members will make valentines for their homebound members under the direction of Noble Grand Frances Berry. Two recently deceased members, Carolyn Dunmore and Della Wheeler, will be memorialized.

Norlands lecture

LIVERMORE – The Norlands Living History Center will sponsor a lecture on the Lincoln-Washburn Connection at noon Thursday, Feb. 12, in the center’s mansion. One of the Washburn sons helped Abraham Lincoln get elected. The public is welcome to come hear stories from one of the Washburn descendants. Training tutors

FARMINGTON – The Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset counties will present a “Basic Reading Tutor Training” workshop from 5 to 7 p.m. starting March 9 at the Skowhegan Area High School. The workshop will continue each Tuesday evening through April 13. The workshop covers topics such as: qualities of a good tutor, needs of adult learners, techniques for teaching reading and creative lesson planning. There is a small fee for the Literacy Volunteer training materials, which are retained by the tutor. Pre-diabetes talk

FARMINGTON – Pre-diabetes will be discussed by Barb MacGregor, certified diabetes educator, from 8 to 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, in the Walden Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital. About 17 million adults in the United States have diabetes and another 16 million have a condition called pre-diabetes. Pre-diabetes, the newest name for impaired glucose tolerance, is on the increase due in part to bigger waistlines and a sedentary lifestyle. This presentation will feature information on risk factors, suggested lifestyle changes to improve the body’s ability to use insulin and screening guidelines. There will also be time for questions and answers. This is a free service by the hospital. Light refreshments will be served. People can phone 779-2555 to register.

FARMINGTON – The Sandy River Valley Chapter of the Maine Genealogy Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, in the Farmington Public Library. The program will be “Finding Passenger Lists for Our Immigrant Ancestors.” Anyone with an interest in genealogy is welcome to attend.
