OXFORD – Around the office, they’ve started calling Bill Ryan “the emperor of fun.”

The latest recreational acquisition by Ryan, owner of Oxford Plains Speedway, is the sports collectibles business formerly operated as DaZone in Norway.

Ryan bought the entire inventory of diecast and racing collectibles of interest to NASCAR racing fans, said Ryan spokesperson Mark Turcotte.

The inventory will be put on display at the Oxford Hills Fun Park, which Ryan also owns, along with Oxford Plains Snow Tubing. Both businesses, and the speedway, are on Route 26.

“We kid with him that he’s taking over Route 26 one building at a time,” Turcotte said.

The collectibles will be housed in the Fun Park building, and will be expanded to include other major sports, including football, baseball, basketball and hockey. The Fun Park building will still offer video games, but the pool tables will be removed.

The Fun Park collectibles business will open Feb. 13.

The park also includes a miniature golf course that operates seasonally.

Turcotte said the business will offer many cross-promotions with the speedway, including raffles and giveaways.
