Mrs. Marie Rossiter is one of the new teachers for the 2003 year at Lewiston High School. She teaches eleventh grade English and has a passion for learning obtained when she was in elementary school.

She grew up in Yonkers, New York where she decided she wanted to become a teacher at an early age. After her freshman year in high school she moved to Vermont where she spent the rest of her high school days. She attended college at Charleston St. and moved to Maine after her husband, Jon, found a job opportunity.

Mrs. Rossiter has been interested in theatre and was highly involved in theatre in college. She uses her experience to help her with her teaching. “Getting in front of a class is like gelling up in front of a stage,” she says. Her lesson plan is like her script, and her students are like her audience. One way of putting on a good “show” is by “understanding the needs of my students,” which is what she feels is the most important aspect of teaching. “If I can’t convey to you, what good is that? Everyone has a different way of taking in information.” However, she admits “juggling the needs of students can be draining,” but it is worth it in the end if her students are learning and enjoying themselves on the way.

Her other passions besides teaching are music (from hip hop to 8s to classical) and writing. She recently won an honorable mention in an Internet short story writing contest, and also writes some freelance articles for the Lewiston Sun-Journal. She lives in Auburn where she enjoys spending time with her husband of seven years and her two daughters Cailyn 5, and Erin 1.
