LEWISTON – Eddy Grey Fox Burgess recently visited Bonnie Bannister’s fourth-grade class at Holy Cross in coordination with their unit studies on Native Americans.

Grey Fox, a Micmac Indian, shared his Native American culture through tribal music, dance and a display of Native American tools and regalia.

“My program highlights the importance of multi-culturalism and anti-bullying as well as the historical correctness of Thanksgiving,” said Grey Fox, who also made a presentation before the Holy Cross preschool students.

“At Holy Cross, we also explored the safe use of tools, identification of wildlife and reflected on the mending of Mother Nature,” he said.

Bannister, who has invited Grey Fox to visit her classes in the past, said this year’s students particularly enjoyed the tribal dances and a demonstration of the tools he uses as a fire keeper.

“He has a great way of holding the students’ attention and creating a presentation that is both interesting and age-appropriate,” said Bannister.
