PERU – A public hearing on the pending merger between SAD 21 and Peru School is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the school.
Maine Education Commissioner Susan A. Gendron is expected to be present to address any questions residents may have.
Organizers also scheduled a snow date of 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, should the need arise.
This meeting will be the last before Peru voters hold a referendum to decide whether or not to merge with neighboring SAD 21. That referendum vote takes place from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the Rockemeka Grange.
Residents in the SAD 21 towns of Canton, Carthage and Dixfield are expected to conduct their own referendum April 27. The district would conduct an informational meeting and a public hearing before the SAD 21 referendum.
