ORONO (AP) – Mark Flavin scored 14 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds as Maine beat New Hampshire 60-58 on Wednesday.
The Black Bears (15-7, 9-4 America East) found themselves down 22-12 after an 11-0 run by the Wildcats (6-17, 2-11) before answering with a 17-8 run to end the half, which included seven points by Joe Campbell.
The run cut New Hampshire’s lead to 30-29.
Both teams jockeyed for the lead early in the second half. It was New Hampshire that took it finally with a 7-0 run midway through to lead 47-40 with 9:05 to play.
But Maine answered with 7-0 run of its own to tie the game. Two free throws by Flavin with 3:36 remaining in the game put Maine ahead.
Ben Sturgill led the Wildcats with 16 points on 6-9 shooting from the floor. Craig Walls chipped in with 13.
Maine got 12 points from Eric Dobson and 11 from Kevin Reed.
The Black Bears’ went 16-19 from the free throw line in the second half.
