LIVERMORE FALLS – Committee members and townspeople had several suggestions to improve the town at a meeting of the Downtown Merchants Group on Monday.

Among them were to highlight the town’s access to the river, improve the perception of the town to visitors and work with the upcoming Route 4 state road project.

The old gas station/video store at Bridge and Main streets has been obtained by the state as part of that project, making room for a right hand lane, it was reported.

It was recommended to improve directional signs for the Skate Park, the roller rink, the boat landing and schools.

Attendees noted that removing the wall by the courthouse would improve vision across to the gazebo and make the parking area more visible.

Also suggested were facade improvements to improve the visual impact of the business district, making everything pleasing to the eye and encouraging people to get out and walk the downtown area.

Other suggestions were to join the annual Trek from the Source to the Sea, utilizing the public boat landing off Foundry Road.

Publishing a guide to community resources would help, it was suggested, as would instilling pride in the community.

Chairman Bruce Adams announced that a Community Forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at Murray Hall when representatives of Pierce Atwood, the consultants, will be on hand to discuss the town’s future with citizens and business people.

Jonathan Wakefield, representing Coldwell Banker Realty, reported a buyer is interested in the old Odd Fellows building including the space once occupied by Giguere’s Food Store.

Debi Davidson introduced her conservation group, the Izaak Walton League, which is now located in the back portion of the 79 Main St. house formerly used by Dr. Thayer.

The group is a statewide, all-volunteer group that works on stream preservation, improving outdoor ethics and wildlife conservation. It plans a campsite clean-up program on May 26, she said.

Adams closed by urging all to attend the Feb. 26 meeting.
