ROXBURY – Plans are in the works for the 25th annual Larry Mercier Memorial Ice Fishing Derby on Feb. 29.
The annual fund-raising event for anglers of all ages is held on Ellis Pond, commonly known as Roxbury Pond.
The Mexico-Rumford Lions Club sponsors the derby. Proceeds help provide eye care and hearing aids for people who cannot afford them.
There will be first, second and third prizes for the largest trout, bass and pickerel.
There are raffle tickets for a 10-inch Jiffy ice auger. Tickets are $1 each or 10 for $5 and are available at numerous businesses in several towns or from any Lions Club member.
The Lions Club will provide a lunch wagon and sell hot dogs, other foods and beverages.
People can preregister at any time at Ellis Pond Variety. Registrations on the day of the derby will be at the same location. Bait will be available at Ellis Pond Variety.
