MECHANIC FALLS – Shane Nichols, a seventh-grader at Minot Consolidated School, has been named Student of the Month by the Tri-Town Optimist Club of Mechanic Falls.

Nichols was selected by his teachers and Principal Don Bilodeau, who said he is a quiet young man who leads by example. An excellent scholar, Nichols has been on the honor roll consistently and was Union 29 spelling bee champion last year. He is also a member of the basketball team.

Some 25 residents of Mechanic Falls, Poland and Minot came together to start the Tri-Town Optimist Club, which is affiliated with Optimist International, one of the world’s largest and most active service club organizations.
