FREEPORT – Families looking for fun during school vacation week will find it at the L.L.Bean flagship store on Main Street from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 19 to 22.

Children can navigate a snowshoe obstacle course with help from Bean’s Outdoor Discovery School staff, meet sea creatures at Michael Dunn’s Touch Tank, make kaleidoscopes and zoetropes, and enjoy the Hurdy Gurdy Puppet Theater.

Parents and kids also can check out the Bean Summer Camp Open House and discover what area camps have to offer

The winter vacation week fun will include the Summer Camp Trade show, with representatives from Pineland Farms Summer Programs, Chop Point Summer Camp, Greater Portland Traveling Summer Science Camp, L/A Arts Summer Theatre, My Wonderful Dog Teen Summer Camp and others.

The Touch Tank will be a chance to meet a variety of Maine sea creatures such as lobsters, sea cucumbers, urchins and sea stars.

Daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be arts and crafts with “Artful Enchantments” by Fiddlehead Center for the Arts.

On Thursday, it will be fairies and dragonflies; Friday, medieval castles; Saturday, wizard hats, crowns and wands; and Sunday, dragon puppets.

Daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Schools Snowshoe Obstacle Course will be available. It’s an opportunity to have fun while learning how to snowshoe.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the activities will feature Meet the Authors. “Enjoy meeting the creative minds behind some of our most-loved children’s books such as ‘Down to the Sea with Mr. Magee’ by Chris Van Dusen, ‘When I’m with You’ by Elizabeth Elder and Leslie Mansmann and ‘The Henhouse’ by Carol Dean and Sandy Dunn,” said a Bean spokesperson.

Children will be able to meet and have their picture taken with L.L.Bean’s friendly mascot, L.L.Bear, from 1 to 4 p.m. daily. They can take their free picture home with them.

The daily catch and release demonstrations will be at 2 p.m. at the store’s indoor trout pond. There will be More Fun with the Arts from 3 to 5 p.m. Activities are open to the public and are free. FMI: call 1-800-559-0747, ext. 37222.
