Buick’s Rainier comes standard with a 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine rated at 275 horsepower providing the power, capability and smoothness of a V-8 combined with the efficiency of a six-cylinder.

A 5.3 V-8 is optionally available providing 290 horsepower. Both mate to an electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission. Towing capacity ranges from 6,100 to 6,700 pounds depending on which engine and drivetrain components are selected.

Rainier is available with all-wheel-drive capability or in two-wheel-drive, as well as an optional air spring suspension system.

The standard equipment list includes Bilstein shocks, 17-inch wheels and premium Michelin tires.

Appointments reveal upscale comfort and luxury, easily seating five adults. The monochromatic interior – available in either pewter or cashmere – is set off by chrome accents and dark burled walnut woodgrain in the instrument panel, door trim and center console. Beyond its contribution to a noticeably quiet passenger compartment, Rainier’s exterior design complements its suspension system in crosswind situations, allowing Rainier to remain very stable.

Rainier’s design goes hand-in-hand with its performance, with its cosmopolitan styling based on a very nimble and robust platform. It is capable of tackling any number of off-road conditions that are off-limits to conventional passenger cars.
