In response to a letter to the editor Jan. 13 from Denis Mailhot, who responded to an article in the Jan. 8 Sun Journal about illegal aliens, what part of “illegal” doesn’t he understand?

Yes, we are a nation of immigrants, but our forefathers came here legally, worked hard, learned the language and made this the greatest nation in the world.

Illegal aliens are not only tearing this nation apart, but it is my belief that they also cost the taxpayers billions of dollars a year. It’s time both parties confront this issue and place troops on our borders. That would not cost the taxpayers anything extra as we have to pay them anyway. We have troops protecting borders of many foreign countries, why can’t we have troops protecting America?

It is my opinion that had we followed the immigration laws, we’d have two towers still standing in New York.
