Parker Pond Road has been posted in an effort to stop partying and illegal dumping.

JAY – Landowners have posted a private way to would-be trespassers.

Anyone who has called and requested permission to fish or trap along Parker Pond Road has been granted permission to do so, said Raymond Paul.

Paul’s family owns the first 1,200 feet of the road, a three-quarter-mile, dead-end road in East Jay that leads to Parker Pond.

Paul said he posted the road to try to stop needless traffic, excess partying, illegal dumping and suspected drug dealing.

The “No trespassing” signs allow police to be able to take action, Paul said. The town does not plow or maintain the road.

First trespassers would receive a verbal warning. If they returned, it would be considered criminal trespassing, Paul said.

Paul and other landowners in the area have been having trouble, he said.

A records search back to the 1800s, Paul said, shows that the Livermore Falls Water District and Central Maine Power Co. have access over the dirt road.

Paul’s water line runs under the road and froze last year in February.

The 600 feet of line didn’t thaw out until June, he said. He attributed that to vehicles traveling over the road and “pounding” the frost deeper into the ground.

Paul said he has had animal parts dumped on his property, including moose parts during the last deer season, and kids drive up the road late at night or early in the morning.

“I’m not furnishing a place to kids to get drunk” and then go out and get killed, Paul said.

The signs have detoured about 99 percent of the traffic, he said. “We’re not trying to do it to be rotten to the public,” Paul said.

When he was a sportsman, Paul said, he asked landowners for permission to hunt or fish on their property.

“We’re just trying to stop the partying and drug dealing,” Paul said.
