The MDOT will

help with the creation of a bike/foot path along Foundry Road.

LIVERMORE FALLS – Newly elected selectman Russell Flagg attended his first meeting of the board Wednesday night, just an hour after the closing of the polls.

Flagg submitted to the other board members his letter of resignation from the SAD 36 Board of Directors and then was sworn in by Clerk Faith Nichols.

Selectmen may now appoint someone to fill in the remaining months of his SAD 36 term, which ends June 30.

The board met briefly in open session, signing warrants and a contract with Pierce Atwood for the downtown revitalization study. Their report is expected by June.

Selectmen then entered an executive session to discuss labor negotiations with shop stewards representing town employees.

Town Manager Alan Gove announced that the Maine Department of Transportation will guide the town on the bike/pedestrian paths project for Foundry Road.

Of prime concern is the safety of walkers and bikers since vehicles also use that road. He said the construction may be done with the highway department in July.

A second project would run to Shuy Corner since the one this summer would go only as far as the canoe launch.

Gove also shared information on the library trust interest, which is declining. He also noted that the Child Evangelism Fellowship at the Campground is considering the town’s request for a service fee in lieu of taxes.

Following an executive session at the close of the Jan. 20 meeting, the board voted to extend Gove’s contract through June 2006.
