MECHANIC FALLS – Mechanic Falls-Poland Adult and Community Education Program will open its doors at 108 Lewiston St. on Monday, Feb. 23.
Housed in the newly renovated Mechanic Falls Municipal Building, the Adult Learning Center and Computer Lab are accessible by elevator. The Thursday night class led by Crystal Morris, currently held at Elm Street School, will move to the Bakerstown School space at Poland Town Hall. The winter program is under way. The Learning Center is accepting new day and evening students for skill upgrading, high school diplomas and General Educational Development testing. The Business Skills and Computer Lab are also enrolling new students. Call the office before Wednesday, Feb. 18, for information.

Soothe the Stress: Share and learn techniques to soothe the stress, support the immune system, lift spirits and relieve aches and pains. Register for one or all sessions. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a pillow and a blanket or mat. 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18.
E-Mail Basics: The hands-on course will give participants the skills needed to navigate the Internet using Internet Explorer and the ability to write, send and receive e-mail using Outlook Express. 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 1, three weeks.
Ballroom Dancing: Learn the basics of dancing with a partner and gain confidence. Specify when registering if a leader or follower. Couples and singles are welcome. Maine Ballroom Dance provides professionally trained dance instructors who teach dance steps and include partnering and technique training. 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, six weeks.
Knitting Workshop: Get help with an unfinished project or peruse patterns for a project. 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, four weeks.
Microsoft Word: It is an introductory course in word processing using Microsoft Word 97 and Windows 98. Learn how to create, print, open, edit and format documents, learn text alignments and enhancements. 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, four weeks.
Keeping Your PC Healthy: Learn how to speed up a computer for first-rate performance by scheduling regular maintenance. Free up hard disk space, make programs run faster and optimize hard disk performance. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4.
Line Dancing: No partner is necessary. Children 8 years and older welcome with parent or guardian. 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 4, six weeks.
Dried Flower Wreath: Learn the basics and complete a small wreath featuring dried flowers and accessories. Bring a glue gun, clippers or utility shears. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday March 8.
Good Discipline, Good Kids: Learn how to engage cooperation; effectively set rules, expectations and limits; problem-solve; alternatives to punishment; accept and respect children’s feelings; and manage anger. Bring a notebook. 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.Monday, March 8.
Picture Matting: Learn five or so basic matting designs, take them home and hang pictures. 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, five weeks.
