BRUNSWICK – Beginning and experienced meditators throughout Maine are invited to attend Shambhala Training Level One, a weekend introduction to the practice of sitting meditation, on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27 and 28, at the Shambhala Mediation Center, 19 Mason St.

The program, “The Art of Being Human,” will begin with a talk at 7:30 p.m. Friday. It will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday with group instruction in sitting meditation, meditation practice, talks, individual interviews, group discussion and a closing reception. Lunch will be provided.

The fee is $100. Need-based scholarship discounts are available for elders, students, unemployed persons and single parents. Those interested may contact Kathy Coleman at 729-5299 or [email protected] to register.

Shambhala training is offered in a series of five weekend programs called “The Heart of Warriorship,” an opportunity to learn and practice the basic meditation technique developed in the Buddhist cultures of Asia, presented in a nonreligious, nonsectarian context. Completing the series gives participants the tools needed to establish a personal meditation discipline and the basic principles of warriorship in daily life.
