So Augusta and the Maine Municipal Association don’t like the property tax cap proposal.
What a shock. Here is a suggestion, get to work.
Instead of wasting time telling us what can’t be done, work on what can be done. If you don’t do something, the voters will and if it happens, you have no one to blame but yourselves.
Augusta is busy blaming the municipalities and the municipalities are busy blaming the state, meanwhile the clock is ticking. I don’t doubt the municipalities are wasting money and people with taxes. I also realize the state could make some tough choices by cutting spending and changing the tax structure.
Anyone with half a brain can understand what the tax cap proposal would do to budgets statewide. It also doesn’t take more than half a brain to realize something needs to be done. The days of “if we have taxpayers, we have money” have got to stop.
