Why are we relaying messages to al-Qaida?

I think Sen. Collins should look into why a message from inside Iraq, intended for al-Qaida, was broadcast by newscasters.

I know America is starved for some good news to come from that fiasco, but why not simply broadcast that a message intended for al-Qaida was intercepted? Why tell al-Qaida what that message was? Couldn’t somebody in a position of authority have decided to announce the success but not to disclose the contents?

“Coalition authorities have now released the entire text of what they say is a chilling letter written by Zarqawi asking al-Qaida for assistance in organizing civil strife in Iraq. The letter, first reported Monday by the New York Times, was being carried by a courier when it was intercepted.”

Would it have taken longer for al-Qaida to get the message if we hadn’t intercepted it?

Loose lips kill our soldiers and help al-Qaida to network with like-minded groups.
