I am a Minot resident. For 20 years, I have supported our great community with no questions asked. This year I learned things about our town that have gotten my attention. Our only school services kindergarten to eighth grade. We have what I consider a good rural school. But what’s inside the school is wrong.
There’s no adequate space for state mandated programs. There’s no room for extracurricular activities like drama or music. Our library is divided by sectionals to house certain programs. Our library should be a library not a multi-functional room. Our sport events are crowded, jeopardizing safety.
As a taxpayer, I expect my taxes to be taking care of our children first. Let’s examine our tax bills and look at the break down of the mill rate. It’s kind of sad our municipality is getting more of our tax dollars than our children. Bottom line is no one wants to pay higher taxes. A lot of us felt a crunch this year. So what do we do?
Let’s allocate our money differently. Let’s put our school’s needs first. Let’s control our hard-earned money. Let’s get educated this year. We could provide for our children without paying higher taxes. Our kids need our vote.
