NORWAY – Eleven local “characters” are to be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at the Norway Memorial Library.

The public is invited to join the Friends of the Library in a Cabin Fever Reliever and sample recipes from their cookbook, “Appetite for Nostalgia: A Maine Community’s Cooks and Characters.”

Cookbooks will be on sale during the program. Characters will include Doris Ray portraying Maude Kaemmerling, benefactor of the library, as the hostess for the evening. Other characters portrayed in the cookbook include Gram Dunham, Bess Klain, Emugene Staples, Winona Palmer, the Prince sisters, Callie’s Grandmothers and the Bean women of Otisfield. Each of these women will be introduced by a living relative or friend. Living characters Laila Suomela, Edie Guyer and Jane Gibson will be on hand.

After meeting the “characters” in the cookbook, 11 of the recipes will be introduced. These will be available for sampling by those attending.

Desserts will include recipes titled Apples Gingerbread, Creamy Fresh Pear Pie, Hermit Cookies, Steamed Pudding, Aunt Yvonne’s Walnut Cake and Nisu Bread. Snacks will include recipes titled Martha’s Snack Mix, Ham Spread, Feta-Walnut Dip, Barge Boat Dip, Spinach Balls and Irish Soda Bread. For information phone the Norway Memorial Library at 743-5309.
