MEXICO – Joan Southers, who is here from Chile, South America, on a scholarship, will speak to members of the Mexico Historical Society at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Calvin Lyons meeting room at the town hall. A ham dinner will be prepared and served by Calvin Lyons. Members are to bring desserts.

Ash distribution
RUMFORD – St. Michael’s Orthodox Old Catholic Mission at the Hotel Harris, 25 Hartford St., will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 25, for the distribution of ashes.
The church will be open to the public during lent from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

RUMFORD – The women of the Stephens High School class of 1949 will meet for their regular monthly luncheon at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Covered Wagon in Mexico.
WOWS luncheon
RUMFORD – The WOWS (Widows or Widowers Sharing) will meet for a noon potluck luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Rumford United Methodist Church on Linnell Street.
The speaker will be Dr. Angela L. Roberts, who has a chiropractic office on Exchange Street. She will speak on nutrition.
All widows or widowers in the area are invited.

Ice show trip
DIXFIELD – Neighborly Senior Citizens are planning a trip to Disney On Ice scheduled for Friday, March 26.
The show, Mickey and Minnie’s Magical Journey, will feature Peter Pan, Little Mermaid, 101 Dalmatians and Lilo and Stitch.
The bus will leave at noon from Mexico. Cost of trip will be $30 and will include cost of show and transportation by Cyr Bus Line.

Tracking trip
CANTON – A winter tracking trip on conservation lease lands will be conducted by outdoorsman Richard Cousins from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, March 14.
The parcel contains diverse habitats including a stand of hemlocks, steep slopes, hardwood floodplain forest and a wetland along the Androscoggin River.
Participants are encouraged to bring snowshoes, cameras and warm clothing. Contact Mike at 225-5705 to sign up.
Trees and shrubs
PARIS – Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District is taking orders for its annual tree and shrub sale until April 1. The district also covers the Androscoggin Valley area as the Androscoggin Valley Conservation District no longer holds a sale.
