AUBURN – John Neal of Greene is music director for Lewiston-Auburn’s Community Little Theatre’s March production of “Forever Plaid” by Stuart Ross.
Neal has been with CLT since he played the piano in the lobby for “No, No, Nanette” as a high school student in the mid-’70s. He has performed on keyboards for a number of productions, including “Oklahoma” and “Little Shop of Horrors.” He served as music director for “Nunsense,” “Company,” “Oliver” and “South Pacific.”
Neal said he is excited about the show and the cast. He feels the performers, Paul G. Caron, Bruce Condit, Ron Bouffard and Harry Neidig, are a perfect fit for the script. The two-act musical comedy takes the audience back to the ’50s, to a time before rock ‘n roll, Elvis Presley and the Beatles, to a time when parents and children enjoyed the same music.
Older patrons to the show will be brought back to their youth with such songs as “Three Coins in a Fountain,” “Moments to Remember,” “Love is a Many Splendored Thing” and “Catch a Falling Star.”
The play tells the story of four star-struck lads who dream of following their idols, the Four Aces, the Four Lads, the Four Freshmen, the Hi-Lo’s and the Crew Cuts. They practice and rehearse and play at small time gigs. They finally hit the big time, but, sadly, are killed instantly en-route to their big performance. They are granted an opportunity to perform one last time before returning to heaven.
Show dates are March 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees on March 7 and 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $13 and $11 for seniors and full-time students. Reservations may be made by calling 783-0958 or accessing the theater’s Web site at laclt.com. All performances are held at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center, Academy Street.
