RUMFORD – Oxford County Democrats plan to announce a complete slate of delegates and alternates to May’s Democratic State Convention at their upcoming meeting on Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Eagles Hall on Oxford Street. County Chairperson Cathy Newell will also announce the list of newly elected town chairpersons for the county. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a beef stew supper, with ticket prices at $4 per person.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 with a briefing on Maine’s Dirigo Health Plan by Adam Thompson of the Office of Health Policy, followed by the business meeting of the County Committee. Anyone interested in electing Democrats in 2004 is welcome to attend.
Fiddler performing
DIXFIELD – Billy Scott will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Dixfield Coffee House, High Street. Scott has been playing country music in the area since the early ’60s, originally with The Impacts and then with Appalachian. Later, Scott began playing weekend gigs by himself. He’s played an assortment of old time country and Celtic fiddling for many years in the area.
The cost is $5 at the door; children under 12 will be admitted free if accompanied by an adult. Dessert and coffee will be on sale.
Charette singing
NEWRY – The Black Diamond Family Entertainment Series is presenting the Rick Charette Duo at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Grand Ballroom, Grand Summit Resort Hotel, Sunday River Ski Resort. Benefit bottle drive
PERU – A bottle drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, to support the Families in Crisis Task Force. Bottles will be collected by the Friends on a Mission group from the Peru Church.
Mental health info
RUMFORD – Diane Farnum, a local, mental health advocate and nationally certified family educator, will again present a Family-to-Family Education Program. It will be co-taught by Rhonda Buker of Newry and will begin on Tuesday, March 9.
The 12-week curriculum was created by NAMI, is sponsored by NAMI-ME and co-sponsored by Oxford County Mental Health Services. It is for parents, spouses, siblings, teen/adult children, partners and/or other loved ones of people with serious mental illness. Sessions will cover the latest information on major mental illnesses, coping skills, basic medication, brain function, listening and communication skills, recovery and self-care.
