JAY – A 20-year-old Jay man was sentenced to four years in jail with all but 90 days suspended for having parent-approved sex with a 13-year-old girl.
Jesse Richards pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual contact Friday.
Richards had been charged with gross sexual assault in December after police received an anonymous tip of unlawful sexual contact.
During an investigation, Jay police Detective Fred Lowell learned that Richards was having ongoing sexual relations with the girl.
Further investigation revealed that the sexual relationship was with the consent of the girl’s parent, Jay police Chief Larry White Sr. said earlier.
It is unlawful for an adult to engage in sex with a person under 14 years old, with or without consent.
Richards was also required to register as a sex offender and was placed on four years probation after he serves his 90 days in jail.
