As a resident of Lewiston, I have gone downtown many nights only to find over half of the streetlights were not on. What is up with that, anyway?
I can see the city trying to save money, but at the expense and safety of the taxpayers?
On Feb. 16, I was traveling down Birch Street in the middle of the day and every streetlight on that street was on. Then, that night, every streetlight on Oak Street and Ash Street was out, as well as the lights on Park Street.
As far as I’m concerned, this is a big safety issue. If I was unable to drive, I would not want to be on the streets of Lewiston when the streetlights were off for fear of getting mugged or shot.
This issue really needs to be looked into.
