LEWISTON – Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 and Auxiliary will meet at noon Sunday, Feb. 29, at the Lewiston Elks Lodge at 1675 lisbon St. Up for discussion will be membership, nomination of officers, update on Veterans Memorial Park, poppies and spring activities. The auxiliary is planning poppy sales and a visit to the South Paris Veterans Home.
VFW fund-raiser
AUBURN – VFW Post 1603 will donate proceeds from the next two post breakfasts to the New Auburn Little League. Breakfasts will be from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 29, and Sunday, March 14. The post will host the state convention June 10, 11 and 12 in Lewiston. A ham raffle will be held at 7 p.m. April 9 and the auxiliary will serve a smothered beef super before the raffle.

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Area Widows Fellowship will meet on Monday, March 1, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, School Street. The gathering will begin with a social time at 11:30 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch at noon. All interested widows in the area are invited.

LEWISTON – The Dr. Paul Fortier Chapter No. 52 of the Association Canado-Americaine will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, March 1, in the Senior Citizens Room of the Multi-Purpose Center.
There will be a presentation on “Tracing Your Family’s French Roots” by Jane Fogg of the Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society. Fogg, who lives in Auburn, instructs classes in genealogical research for the Auburn Adult Education Program, and also leads workshops locally and statewide through the genealogical society. She serves as both an officer and librarian of the Maine Franco-American Genealogical Society, which is based at the former Great Falls School on High Street in Auburn. Exchange club
AUBURN – Bob Clark, Boys and Girls Club executive director, recently updated members of the Auburn Exchange Club on what the youths are doing. Accompanying Clark were his daughter, Elizabeth, and Mark “MJ” Cherilla, a Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year finalist. Cherilla spoke on that program.
Clark announced that the club’s technology center has significantly been upgraded, thanks to a $35,000 grant from the JC Penney Corp. Amy Brooks has received the first Christopher Bardier Memorial Scholarship, Clark said. She plans attend the University of Maine at Augusta.
John Higgins, reporting on the gun show, said that the club has sold 187 tables so far. Paul Dubois also said that the club has almost $1,500 in donations in Larry Higgins’ memory.
Bridge results
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Feb. 23rd were: First, Helen Little and George Vogt; second, Betty and Doug Sise; third, Anna Vitiello and Randy Silver; fourth, Alberta Turner and Connie Simpson; fifth, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; third in B, Cynthia Bonsey and Joe Conley.
