CANTON – For 20 years Canton has not had a reevaluation. Selectmen voted Wednesday night to accept Michael O’Donnell and Associates’ proposal for a complete evaluation of the town.

The quoted price is $54,375 and will include inside home evaluations as well as property.

The state recommends a revaluation every 10 years and Canton was overdue. Selectman Susan Gammon said she would like to see more frequent evaluations in the future as it would be easier and probably less expensive. The date to start has not been finalized by O’Donnell but will probably be 2005.

March 16 at 6:30 p.m. has been set for a public hearing on the school merger with SAD 21. Peru has recently voted for the merger. Voting will take place in April.

The warrant for the annual Town Meeting was signed and has been sent to the printer. The meeting will be on Saturday, March 13.

Selectmen discussed the fact that not all trash is being put into the recycle bins, especially that from the Villa. Selectman will notify the Villa of the proper procedure. Also fluorescent tubes must be put into a special box and there must be a form filled out and placed on the box stating the number of tubes and the date.

Selectman Chris Wainwright said he had seen a vehicle from a neighboring town bring trash to the Canton dump. All vehicles in Canton must have a dump sticker.

A tentative date for having the Department of Environmental Protection bring bins for flood debris was suggested for March 20.

Several complaints were read from concerned citizens over frost heaves and a loose manhole cover.

Edward Libby is still in violation of the State junkyard ordinance and the judge has denied his motion to vacate or to have the charges against him dropped.

He remains in contempt and liable for his fines.
