DIXFIELD – Billy Scott will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Dixfield Coffee House, High Street. Scott has been playing country music in the area since the early ’60s, originally with The Impacts and then with Appalachian. Later, Scott began playing weekend gigs by himself. He’s played an assortment of old time country and Celtic fiddling for many years in the area.

The cost is $5 at the door; children under 12 will be admitted free if accompanied by an adult. Dessert and coffee will be on sale.

Benefit bottle drive

PERU – A bottle drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, to support the Families in Crisis Task Force. Bottles will be collected by the Friends on a Mission group from the Peru Church.

Ice fishing derby

ROXBURY – The 25th annual Larry Mercier Memorial Ice Fishing Derby will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 29. The Mexico Lions Club sponsors the derby. Proceeds help provide eye care and hearing aids for people who cannot afford them.

There will be first, second and third prizes for the largest trout, bass and pickerel. The Lions Club will sell hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages. The entrance fee is $5. People can preregister at Ellis Pond Variety. Registrations on the day of the derby will be at the same location. Bait will also be available at Ellis Pond Variety.

GOP caucus set

RUMFORD – Robert A. Cameron, chairman of the Rumford Republican Committee, has issued an invitation to all registered Republicans in Rumford, Byron and Roxbury to caucus at 7 p.m. Feb. 29 in the Lower Court Room across from the Rumford Police Department in the Rumford Municipal building.

The main purpose of the biennial caucus is to allow registered voters who are enrolled in the Republican Party to elect delegates and alternates to the Republican State Convention. The convention this year will be held at the Augusta Civic Center on May 14 and 15. Other business of the caucus will include the organization of the local committee and the nomination of members to the Oxford County Republican Committee. All local Republicans are encouraged to attend the caucus and take part in the political process.

Mental health info

RUMFORD – Diane Farnum, a local, mental health advocate and nationally certified family educator, will again present a Family-to-Family Education Program. It will be co-taught by Rhonda Buker of Newry and will begin on Tuesday, March 9.

The 12-week curriculum was created by NAMI, is sponsored by NAMI-ME and co-sponsored by Oxford County Mental Health Services. It is for parents, spouses, siblings, teen/adult children, partners and/or other loved ones of people with serious mental illness. Sessions will cover the latest information on major mental illnesses, coping skills, basic medication, brain function, listening and communication skills, recovery and self-care. There is no cost to participate, but space and class size is limited. Preregistration is required. For more information or to register, people can call 369-0542 or 824-3076.
