MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – Manchester and Portland needed an extra five minutes to decide things Wednesday night, but even that wasn’t enough as they played to a 0-0 tie. The best scoring chances came in the extra session as Adam Hauser stopped the Pirates’ Brooks Laich on a breakaway with 1:30 to play.
Pavel Rosa had the Monarchs best scoring chance in overtime when his wraparound attempt was stopped by Maxime Ouellet.
Hauser stopped 15 shots in posting his second straight shutout, while Ouellet stopped all 36 shots for the Pirates.
Defense and goaltending was the name of the game through two periods, as the Monarchs and Pirates mustered 16 and nine shots on goal respectively.
