LEWISTON – The Holy Family Faith Formation Office will offer a combination potluck-Bible study class at the parish center. The class is titled “Retelling of the Gospel Through Film, Studying the Gospel Through Film, Jesus of Nazareth.”

The presenters will be Sister Christine Plouffe, Marie Beaulieu and Christine Mumau.

The concept is to study the words of Jesus, as did the early Christians, who shared a meal and prayed together. So in imitation of the early Christians, participants will share a meal, but unlike the early Christians, presenters will use modern techniques to share the words of Jesus.

For six weeks, the formation office will ask people to bring in casseroles, salads and desserts. After they have eaten, they will watch half-hour segments of the movie, “Jesus of Nazareth Part III, Palm Sunday to Easter.”

The facilitators will then lead the class with worksheets, as well hold discussions and question-and-answer periods. The facilitators will also share historical facts for an understanding and appreciation of the details of the Gospel story.

Following supper, each class will last about an hour and will be on the following subjects:

Week 1, March 3, “The Power of Love, Jesus’ Entry into Jerusalem.”

Week 2, March 10, “The Authority of Love, Jesus’ Teachings in Jerusalem.”

Week 3, March 17, “The Nourishment of Love, The Last Supper and the Betrayal of Jesus.”

Week 4, March 24, “Love Rejected and Condemned, Jesus’ Trial.”

Week 5, March 31, “Love to the End, The Sentence of Death and the Crucifixion.”

Week 6, April 7, “The Victory of Love, Easter Morning.”

The potluck supper and classes will be held in the Holy Family Parish Center, 581 Sabattus St., from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The Holy Family High School Youth Ministry will offer baby-sitting for families with young children.
