at The Big Easy

PORTLAND – The Toasters will be in concert with the groups Mr. Breakfast, Animal Suit Drive By and The Ska Rockets at The Big Easy on Sunday, Feb 29. Doors open at 5 p.m. The concert is for all ages.

The Toasters are America’s longest running ska band and, despite trends, continue to play the music simply because they love it, the promoter said. The seven members formed the band in Manhattan. Since 1981, they’ve played more than 4,000 shows in more than 24 countries. The Toasters have put out 12 albums and have been featured in a Michelob commercial and on Nickelodeon’s “Kablam!”.

Chinnock performs

BATH – Rock ‘n’ roller Bill Chinnock will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at The Chocolate Church Arts Center.

Chinnock, an Emmy award-winning singer-songwriter and one of the founders of the Asbury Park, N.J., music scene, is celebrating the release of his latest CD, “Living in the Promised Land.”

Chinnock and his band will be presenting an exciting evening of rock ‘n’ roll and rhythm and blues, according to the arts center.

Tickets for Chinnock’s concert are $14 for members and seniors, $16 for the general public in advance, or $18 at the door. They may be purchased by calling arts center at 442-8455.

Irish band will play

PORTLAND – The Irish band Dervish will perform at the Center for Cultural Exchange at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4.

Formed in 1989 by a group of five musicians, Liam Kelly, Shane Mitchell, Martin McGinley, Brian McDonagh and Michael Holmes, who came together to record an album of local music, which was released as The Boys of Sligo. Inspired by the project they decided to develop into a working band called Dervish.

In 1991, Roscommon-born singer Cathy Jordan and all-Ireland champion Shane McAleer joined the band, giving them the right balance to produce their first Dervish album, released in 1992. Dervish members just released their seventh album, “Spirit.”
