Many L-A musicians are participating in a March 7 program at the Ramada to help an Auburn family whose home was destroyed in a Jan. 22 fire.

Kathy Haley of Good ‘n’ Plenty notoriety lost her home to fire Jan. 22.

LEWISTON – A “Habitat for the Haleys” fund-raiser will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, at the Ramada Inn.

It’s designed to rally support for family members who have dedicated their lives and talents to helping others in the Central Maine region.

On Jan. 22, at 2:30 a.m. Kathy, Don and Don Haley Jr. lost their home and all of their personal belongings to a fire that gutted their home of more than 20 years on Old Danville Road in Auburn.

Organizers of the fund-raiser say they seek to offer support in the midst of their tragic loss and encourage their new beginning with a community-based event featuring dancing, music and entertainment.

The well-known, nine-piece Tony Boffa Band will be playing music for dancing. Kathy’s daughter, Shawna (Haley) Vaillancourt is the featured vocalist for the band.

The event will also feature performances of special musical guests including: Denny Breau; Bonnie Edwards; Lewiston High School’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble; Jeannie Martin; Kathy’s long-time singing partner, Debbie Morin; Nick Knowlton; Bette Sanborn; and Laurie Sidelinger.

Kathy Haley has also agreed to perform, making this event a fine gathering of Lewiston-Auburn talent, organizers note. She has been a professional entertainer in the Lewiston-Auburn area for more than 30 years with groups such as the folk group the Chord Majority and most notably Good ‘n’ Plenty. Currently, she is organist and choir director at the Court Street Baptist Church in Auburn. She also opens and closes the annual Poland Spring summer concert series to sell-out crowds with pianist Phil House.

People interested in helping with this community effort or in making a monetary donation can contact: Shawna Vaillancourt at 777-6346 or Nick Knowlton at 784-2700.

Admission is $10 per person. The event will also feature raffles and a video scrapbook for interested music fans, family and friends of the Haley family.
