1920 – 2004

LEWISTON – Eleanor R. Harris, 83, formerly of 25 Carlton St., Auburn, died peacefully surrounded by family Thursday, Feb. 26, at CMMC. For the past two years residing at The Odd Fellows Home of Maine, Auburn, where she loved, and was loved by staff and residence alike. They were truly her second family.

She was born on May 15, 1920, in Mechanic Falls, a daughter of Theron, and Bertha Hobbs. She graduated Mechanic Falls High School in 1938, where she played on the Girls Basketball team where they were state champs four years running.

She was an active member of the Rebecca Fidelity Lodge No. 4 of Auburn where she proudly served at the positions of Secretary, Noble Grand, Past Noble Grand, and District Deputy President. She was also a member of both the First Auburn and the Robin Dow Senior Citizens.

She loved being with her family, and gathered us often for outings to the ocean, or just to come home for a back yard picnic, or to gather around the kitchen table for Sunday dinner. She loved playing Beano, and a number of other card games with family and friends as well. She was always there to lift your spirits if you were down, and had the wonderful gift of finding the good side of everyone, and everything. If you knew her, you were truly blessed.

Survivors include her four children, a son, Larry D. Pettengill and wife Gloria of Lewiston; three daughters, Linda L. Maeyoshimoto of Mililani, Hawaii, Patsy A Harris, and Pamela J. Cote and husband Louis of Auburn; eight grandchildren, Larry (Chippy), Carl, Corey, Alison, Ryan, Kelly, Sean, and Doug; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Matthew, and Alexis; a sister, Evelyn Mitchell; and a sister-in-law, Lucelle.
