The selectmen and town manager of Buckfield have called a special town meeting for March 2 at 7 p.m. to see if the taxpayers want to spend up to $10,000 or more to basically find out what the definition of an automobile hobbyist is.

They already have an overdraft in their legal fees account because of their ineptitude in settling a road case, but they don’t seem to learn or maybe they think it’s just taxpayers’ money.

Now they are worried that if the people do not authorize them to pay this bill, they will have to pay it out of their own pockets. Maybe we should see if they like it when money has to come out their pockets instead of ours.

A handful of people are trying to make everyone conform to their idea of beauty. They are trying to circumvent what the people want by using the state as a scapegoat. What is so sad about it all is they usually get what they want, because there is one of two things that most people say: “I have to, so they should” or “It doesn’t affect me, so I don’t care.”

Let me say, maybe you would not “have to” if you were willing to fight, and maybe “it doesn’t affect me” is why it does today. I’m hoping that everyone shows up to this meeting. I think we can spend our tax dollars in better ways.
