SALEM, Mass. – Sophomore Josh Cartier netted a pair of goals to lead Salem State to a 6-1 win over the University of Southern Maine in the opening round of the ECAC East Tournament on Saturday evening.

Trailing 3-0 after two periods, the Huskies (11-14-1) spoiled a Viking (12-10-3) shutout just 44 seconds into the third period. Senior Chad Lauze netted his ninth goal of the season off an assist from freshman Bobby Siers.

Salem State responded with three unanswered goals over the next four and one half minutes. Freshman goalie Kevin Adam turned aside 34 shots for the Vikings.
