BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) – Mark Flavin led a balanced attack with 17 points as Maine used a blistering second half to outlast Vermont 72-67 Sunday.
Scotty Jones posted his third straight double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds for Vermont (19-7, 15-3 America East), which will be the second seed in the upcoming conference playoffs.
Flavin scored 13 points in the second half when the Black Bears shot 61 percent from the floor.
Vermont held a 60-59 lead with 3:34 to go before Maine (18-9, 12-6 America East) outscored the Catamounts 13-7 the rest of the way, including three straight baskets in the final 30 seconds.

Maine 8, St. Francis 0
MIAMI, Fla. – The University of Maine baseball team kicked off the 2004 season with an 8-0 win over St. Francis.
Ryan Harris recorded the win, pitching seven strong innings – striking out six while allowing only four hits.
The Black Bears offense was led by Joe Hough, who blasted a home run and a single. Greg Creek went four-for-five with two RBIs.
